An essential part of your Pageant preparation should be having a professional but personable interview experience.
As part of most Natural Pageants, contestants are required to display a certain level of poise, elegance and intellectual prowess and communication skills as the onus is not always necessarily on physical beauty. The way that your intellect is established is during the Interview Section.
Generally, your interview process could take place in one and/or two ways – it could be a pre-judging process that takes place before a panel of judges prior to the Pageant or an on-stage interview with an Emcee. In both circumstances, you will be asked questions based on the information you have supplied on your Registration Application so it is vitally important that you are ready for all circumstantial questions based on the information you have delivered.
Here are some tips that really helped me when I was entering my Pageant: -
Be honest with the information that you supply about yourself.
Some girls feel that this is the opportunity to “supplement” this section of the Registration form which activities, hobbies and details that are really, for want of better word, “fictitious”. This mean that they put into subjects that they really don’t know anything about but feel they will please the judge’s panel and the Pageant itself. In my opinion, it is much easier to submit information that is a true reflection of yourself, your personality, your activities and your ambitions. In this way, when you are asked a question during your interview process then it will be genuine, truthful and from the heart.
Dress For Success
It is essential that you select a wardrobe that will promote the correct “first impression”. The Judges Panel will be seeing many ladies during the judging process so it is vital that you stand out from the crowd – for the right reason! If you have to take part in a Pre-Judging process, then it’s a good idea to select a tailored skirt suit in a pleasing color that is teamed up with elegant coordinating accessories and comfortable shoes. Steer away from lurid, vivid color garments, clumping wedges, strapless/sandal-type shoes and clunky jewelry. I suggest that you wear a beautifully constructed, closed-in shoe that could coordinate color-wise with the outfit of your choice. The heel should be high enough to falter and define your legs, ankles and calves but not too high that you are a tottering mess when you enter the interview room!
DO NOT wear low-cut or ill-fitting shirts that show excessive cleavable, stomach, dresses and tops that are also badly fitted, too short or long, lurid or garish colors, and showy or, for want to better word, tasteless. All these factors may be part of what will, initially, diminish the impact that you make to the judges within seconds of entering the interview room. Your ensemble should concentrate on looking professional, confident and comfortable but also adding the element of your own style and chicness too! And don’t go into the interview room covered in designer labels too! This can also be off-putting to the Judges too. If you have designer outfits, then select a couple that contrast beautifully with the image your want to project, and then coordinate them accordingly.
If your interview may take place on stage at the Pageant event during the evening wear section, then this is your turn to shine! Your evening gown should be a reflection of your personality and elegance and help to present that “WOW” factor when you initially enter the stage in evening wear. All of the above tips should be adhered too but you should also be aware of selecting the right color outfit that will complement your skin tones, hair, etc. Also, look at your body shape, size and physique too and establish what would work well with you. Footwear should also be taken into consideration. And, once again, in my opinion, don’t wear wedges or chunky heels with your evening wear outfit, but find an elegant, beautifully designed comfortable high-heeled shoe that supports your ankles and feet (be careful of the height of the heel and thin stilettos!)
Make sure that you have practiced in your shoes weeks before the Pageant and that you are walking straight, upright and steady and that you are feeling “ultra comfortable and confident” in the shoes of your choice. It really is not a pretty sight to see a girl who cannot navigate her way around the stage because of a poor shoe choice! And, it goes without saying, that, for a Natural pageant, hair, make-up and nails should be soft, demure and natural looking for the pre-judging process and for the evening wear section, you can enhance it with the addition of contrasting colors, soft eye and lip liners. The overall effect should be one of elegance and beauty!
